EU donation- ambulance vehicles
The European Union has provided one half of the necessary ambulances in the country and a faster and better access of all citizens to medical services, especially to those from endangered and minority groups.
Out of the overall number of donated vehicles, 122 are equipped with mobile respirators which are crucial for battling the Covid-19 virus.
The project is financed in the amount of EUR 9 million, while within the project there have been six health centers chosen to which the vehicles will be donated. One of the beneficiaries was the General Hospital in Požarevac, which received two vehicles. This may not seem as a large number, but the emergency services of this hospital have felt an immediate positive effect of the donation.
The director of the hospital, Srećko Bosić, explains:
When you have two new ambulances which you can use every half hour or hour, that
The quality of the equipment which has arrived with the vehicles is also a step forward in the hospital`s activities. Bosić says:
The opportunity to use contemporary equipment has meant a lot to us. Owing to the donation, we are able to respond better to patients` demands and provide them with health services which they rightfully deserve.
The EU project has halved the original number of necessary vehicles, even though the Ministry of Health is trying to increase their number across the country. What is most important is the reduced risk from transporting patients in unsafe vehicles, as well as the time spent waiting on health services – a time which can sometimes mean the matter of life and death.
